Seed-feeder: Larvae feeding in seed-heads. Pupation external (Spencer, 1976: 512).

Larva: Details unknown.

Puparium: Brownish; posterior spiracles enlarged, each with about 45 bulbs.

Comments: Phytomyza tenella is treated as a junior synonym of Chromatomyia asteris in Bladmineerders van Europa.
