APERA. Silky-bents. [Poaceae]

Two native species of Apera are recorded in Britain - Dense Silky-bent (A. interrupta) and Loose Silky-bent (A. spica-venti).

No Diptera miners are recorded on Apera in Britain.

Elsewhere the grass-feeding agromyzids Agromyza nigrociliata, Cerodontha lateralis, Cerodontha pygmaea, Cerodontha lateralis, Cerodontha superciliosa, Chromatomyia nigra, Liriomyza flaveola and Pseudonapomyza atra and the polyphagous ephydrid Hydrellia griseola are recorded mining Apera.

No non-Diptera miners are recorded on Apera in Britain.

A key to the European miners, based on characteristics of the mines, immature stages and where relevant the larval cases, recorded on Apera is provided in Bladmineerders van Europa. This includes Hydrellia griseola, Agromyza nigrociliata, Pseudonapomyza atra, Liriomyza flaveola, Chromatomyia nigra, Cerodontha lateralis and Cerodontha pygmaea but not Cerodontha superciliosa.
