CALLISTEPHUS. China Aster. [Asteraceae]


Only one species of Callistephus, the introduced China Aster (C. chinensis), is recorded in Britain.

No dipterous miners are recorded on Callistephus in Britain.

The agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis and Liriomyza trifolii, polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, are recorded on Callistephus. Both have been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Calycomyza humerailis, Liriomyza bryoniae, Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza pusilla, Liriomyza strigata and Liriomyza trifolii are recorded mining Callistephus.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Callistephus in Britain.
