CALLITRICHE. Water star-worts. [Callitrichaceae]


Eight species of Callitriche are recorded in Britain. These include Autumnal Water-starwort (C. hermaphroditica), Blunt-fruited Water-starwort (C. obtusangula), Common Water-starwort (C. stagnalis), Intermediate Water-starwort (C. hamulata), Narrow-fruited Water-starwort (C. palustris), Pedunculate Water-starwort (C. brutia), Short-leaved Water-starwort (C. truncata), Various-leaved Water-starwort (C. platycarpa) and C. truncata occidentalis. All are native species.

Only one dipterous miner, the ephydrid Hydrellia cochleariae, is recorded on Callitriche in Britain and elsewhere.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Callitriche in Britain.
