CITRULLUS. Water Melon and Bitter Cucumber. [Cucurbitaceae]

Two species of Citrullus are recorded in Britain. Both are introduced and include Water Melon (C. lanatus) and Bitter Cucumber (C. colocynthis).

No dipterous miners are recorded on Citrullus in Britain.

The agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza sativae and Liriomyza trifolii, polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, are recorded on Citrullus. Liriomyza huidobrensis and Liriomyza trifolii have been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Liriomyza bryoniae, Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza sativae and Liriomyza trifolii are recorded mining Citrullus.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Citrullus in Britain.
