Four
species of Deschampsia are recorded in Britain. These include
the native species and subspecies Alpine Hair-grass (D. cespitosa
alpina), Bog Hair-grass (D. setacea), Small-flowered
Hair-grass (D. cespitosa parviflora), Tufted Hair-grass (D.
cespitosa cespitosa) and Wavy Hair-grass (D. flexuosa).
Five
dipterous miners, the agromyzids Agromyza
lucida, Cerodontha
imbuta, Cerodontha
pygmaea, Chromatomyia
nigra and Liriomyza
richteri, are recorded on Deschampsia in Britain.
Miners on grasses should be reared, whenever possible, to confirm
their identity.
