LEPIDIUM. Pepperworts, Hoary Cress and Garden Cress. [Brassicaceae]

Thirty-seven species of Lepidium are recorded in Britain. These include the native Field Pepperwort (L. campestre), Smith's Pepperwort (L. heterophyllum), Dittander (L. latifolium) and Narrow-leaved Pepperwort (L. ruderale) and the introduced Garden Cress (L. sativum) and Hoary Cress (L. draba).

Two dipterous miners, the agromyzid Chromatomyia horticola and the drosophilid Scaptomyza flava, are recorded on Lepidium in Britain.

See BRASSICA.

The agromyzids Liriomyza sativae and Liriomyza trifolii, polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, are recorded on Lepidium.

Liriomyza trifolii has been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the polyphagous agromyzids Liriomyza sativae, Liriomyza strigata and Liriomyza trifolii are recorded mining Lepidium.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Lepidium in Britain.
