MYCELIS. Wall Lettuce. [Asteraceae]

Wall Lettuce (M. muralis) is the only species of Mycelis recorded in Britain. It is a native species.

Two dipterous miners, the agromyzids Chromatomtia 'atricornis' and Ophiomyia cunctata are recorded on Mycelis in Britain.

See LAPSANA.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Chromatomyia 'atricornis', Liriomyza strigata, Ophiomyia beckeri, Ophiomyia cunctata, Ophiomyia heringi, Ophiomyia pulicaria and Phytomyza marginella and the tephritids Trypeta immaculata and Trypeta zoe are recorded mining Mycelis.

Liriomyza sonchi has been recorded on Mycelis (Ellis, Nederlandse bladmineerders). However, the host-specificity of this species has been experimentally tested in Canada (Peschken & Derby, 1988). The species is restricted to Sonchus, the records of sonchi on Mycelis are therefore doubtful.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Mycelis in Britain.
