NICOTIANA. Tobacco. [Solanaceae]

Fifteen species of Nicotiana are recorded in Britain. All are introduced and include Sweet Tabacco (N. alata), Red Tobacco (N. forgetiana), Wild Tobacco (N. rustica) and Tobacco (N. tabacum).

Two dipterous miners, the polyphagous agromyzids Chromatomyia horticola and Liriomyza bryoniae are recorded on Nicotiana in Britain.

See ATROPA.

The agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis and Liriomyza sativae, polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, are recorded on Nicotiana. Liriomyza huidobrensis has been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the polyphagous agromyzids Liriomyza bryoniae, Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza sativae and Liriomyza strigata are recorded mining Nicotiana.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Nicotiana in Britain.
