OCIMUM. Basil. [Lamiaceae]

Two species of Ocimum are recorded in Britain - Sweet Basil (O. basilicum) and Wild Basil (O. micranthum). Both are introduced.

Only one dipterous miner, the polyphagous agromyzid Chromatomyia horticola, is recorded on Ocimum in Britain.

See GALEOPSIS.

The agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis and Liriomyza trifolii, polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, are recorded on Ocimum. Both species have been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the polyphagous agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza strigata and Liriomyza trifoli are recorded mining Ocimum.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Ocimum in Britain.
