ONOPORDUM. Cotton thistle. [Asteraceae]


Five species of Onopordum are recorded in Britain. These include the native Cotton thistle (O. acanthinum).

One dipterous miner, the agromyzid Phytomyza spinacaeae, is recorded on Onopordum in Britain.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Chromatomyia 'atricornis', Liriomyza strigata, Phytomyza autumnalis and Phytomyza spinaciae are recorded mining Onopordum.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Onopordum in Britain.

Elsewhere one British non-dipterous miner is recorded on Onopordum.
