PHASEOLUS. French Bean and Runner Bean. [Fabaceae]

Three species of Phaseolus are recorded in Britain. These include the introduced French Bean (P. vulgaris), Butter Bean (P. lunatus) and Runner Bean (P. coccineus).

Two dipterous miners, the polyphagous agromyzids Chromatomyia horticola and Liriomyza bryoniae, are recorded on Phaseolus in Britain.

The agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza sativae and Liriomyza trifolii, polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, are recorded on Phaseolus. Liriomyza huidobrensis and Liriomyza trifolii have been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Liriomyza bryoniae, Liriomyza congesta, Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza sativae, Liriomyza strigata and Liriomyza trifolii are recorded mining Phaseolus.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Phaseolus in Britain.
