Ten
species of Phleum are recorded in Britain. These include
the native Sand Cat's-tail (P. arenarium), Alpine Cat's-tail
(P. alpinum), Smaller Cat's-tail (P. bertolonii),
Purple-stem Cat's-tail (P. phleoides) and Timothy (P.
pratense).
Four
dipterous miners, the agromyzids Agromyza
mobilis, Agromyza
nigrella, Chromatomyia
fuscula and Chromatomyia
nigra, are recorded on Phleum in Britain. Miners
on grasses should be reared, whenever possible, to confirm their
identity.
