PILOSELLA. Mouse-ear-hawkweeds. [Asteraceae]


Twenty species and subspecies of Pilosella are recorded in Britain.

Three dipterous miners, the agromyzids Ophiomyia pulicaria, Phytomyza marginella and Phytomyza rufescens, are recorded mining Pilosella officinarum (as Hieracium pilosellae) in Britain.

One non-dipterous leaf-miner is recorded on Pilosella in Britain (see below).

Phytomyza marginella Fallén [Agromyzidae].

-> Mainly in basal leaves, running along mid-rib, with short lateral offshoots into leaf blade. Pupation takes place within the petiole or mid-rib.

Phytomyza rufescens von Roser [Agromyzidae].
