SCABIOSA. Scabious. [Dipsacaceae]


Seven species of Scabiosa are recorded in Britain. These include the native Small Scabious (S. columbaria) and the introduced Sweet Scabious (S. atropurpurea) and Pincushion-flower (S. caucasica).

Two dipterous miners, the agromyzids Chromatomyia scabiosae and Lirimyza strigata are recorded on Scabiosa in Britain.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Aulagromyza similis, Chromatomyia ramosa, Chromatomyia succisae and Liriomyza strigata are recorded mining Scabiosa.

One non-dipterous leaf-miner is recorded on Scabiosa in Britain (see below).
