SILYBUM. Milk Thistle. [Asteraceae]


Only one species of Silybum is recorded in Britain, the introduced Milk Thistle (S. marianum).

No dipterous miners are recorded on Silybum in Britain.

The agromyzid Liriomyza sativae, a polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, is recorded on Silybum.

Elsewhere the agromyzid Napomyza lateralis is recorded boring stems of Silybum.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Silybum in Britain.
