TAGETES. Marigolds. [Asteraceae]


Seven species of Tagetes are recorded in Britain. All are introduced and include French Marigold (T. patula). French marigold is native to Mexico and Nicaragua. In addition, it has been cultivated in Europe and the United States for its flowers and medicinal properties.

No dipterous miner are recorded on Tagetes in Britain.

Elsewhere the polyphagous agromyzid Liriomyza strigata is recorded on Tagetes.

The agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis and Liriomyza sativae, polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, are recorded on Tagetes. Liriomyza huidobrensis has been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liriomyza sativae and Liriomyza trifolii are recorded mining Tagetes.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Tagetes in Britain.
