VALERIANA. Valerians. [Valerianaceae]

Four species of Valeriana are recorded in Britain. The include the native Marsh Valerian (V. dioica) and Common Valerian (V. officinalis).

Three dipterous miners, the agromyzids Chromatomyia horticola, Liriomyza strigata, and Liriomyza valerianae, are recorded on Centranthus and Valeriana in Britain. A single key is provided to the mines of both host genera.

See CENTRANTHUS.

The agromyzid Napomyza elegans is possibly a root feeder on Valeriana officinalis (Spencer, 1972).

Elsewhere the agromyzid Chromatomyia horticola is recorded mining Valeriana.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Valeriana in Britain.
