VALERIANELLA. Cornsalads. [Valerianaceae]

Nine species of Valerianella are recorded in Britain. These include the native Keel-fruited Cornsalad (V. carinata), Narrow-fruited Cornsalad (V. dentata), Common Cornsalad (V. locusta) and Broad-fruited Cornsalad (V. rimosa).

Only one dipterous miner is recorded on Valerianella in Britain and this requires confirmation.

See CENTRANTHUS.

The agromyzid Liriomyza huidobrensis a polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, is recorded on Valerianella and has been found under glass in England and Wales. All populations have been and continue to be eradicated.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Chromatomyia horticola, Liriomyza huidobrensis, Liiromyza strigata and Liriomyza valerianae are recorded mining Valerianella.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Valerianella in Britain.
