ZEA. Millet and Cockspurs. [Poaceae]

The introduced Maize (Z. mays) is the only species of Zea recorded in Britain.

No dipterous miners are recorded on Zea in Britain.

The agromyzid Liriomyza sativae, a polyphagous pest species of ornamental and vegetable crops occasionally intercepted at UK points of entry, is recorded on Zea mays. Miners on grasses should be reared, whenever possible, to confirm their identity.

Elsewhere the agromyzids Cerodontha superciliosa, Chromatomyia nigra and Liriomyza sativae are recorded mining Zea.

No non-dipterous miners are recorded on Zea in Britain.
