Leaf-mine: The larvae create a distinctive blotch mine in the leaves of apple (Malus). The larva cuts an exit hole on the underside of the leaf, which distuingishes the mine from that of Ectoedemia atricollis (UKMoths). The mine is also illustrated in British leafminers and Nederlandse bladmineerders.

Distribution in Britain: Fairly well distributed in the British Isles, including West York (Cromwell Bottom NR) (UKMoths), East Kent, Hereford, Kincardine, Lanark, North Devon, North Hants, South Aberdeen, South Wilts, West Gloucester, Worcester (NBN Gateway distribution map - BRERC, NE, NESBRC and SNH) and Ireland (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea). Distribution elsewhere: Widespread in Europe including Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Danish mainland, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Norwegian mainland, Poland, Russia - Central and Northwest, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Ukraine (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).
