Seed-feeder: The larva feeds on the seeds and makes a case from the empty seedhead. The presence of larvae can be seen by the holes they leave in the seedheads (British leafminers).

Distribution in Britain: Present though locally, in southern and eastern England, with a scattered distribution extending to northern England and North Wales (UKMoths) including North Hants, South Lancaster and South-west York (NBN Gateway distribution map - NE and SHWRG). It prefers waste ground and similar habitats (UKMoths).

Distribution elsewhere: Widespread in Europe including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Danish mainland, Estonia, Finland, French mainland, Germany, Hungary, Italian mainland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norwegian mainland, Poland, Russia - Central and South, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).

Parasitoids: Unknown.
