Leaf-mine: The larva feeding on the leaves, and sometimes the flowers. The leaves are blanched by the feeding and the species often feeds gregariously, becoming a pest. The larval case is built in a distinctive herringbone-like fashion, and is sometimes likened to a spikelet of certain grasses (UKMoths).

Time of year - mines: September to October, feeding again from May to June (British leafminers).

Time of year - adults: June to August (UKMoths).

Distribution in Britain: British Is. (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea) including East Kent, East Ross, East Sussex, Easterness, Elgin, Main Argyll, Mid Perth, South Aberdeen, Stafford, Surrey, West Cornwall, West Suffolk and Worcester (NBN Gateway distribution map - JNCC, NE, NESBRC and SNH).

Its recorded host - Petty Whin (Genista anglica) - is widespread throughout England, Wales and Scotland, but is not recorded in Ireland (NBN Gateway distribution map)

Distribution elsewhere: Widespread in Europe including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Danish mainland, French mainland, Germany, Greek mainland, Hungary, Italian mainland, Macedonia, Portuguese mainland, Romania, Sardinia, Slovakia, Spanish mainland, Sweden and The Netherlands (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).

Parasitoids: Unknown.
