Leaf-mine: The early gallery starts in the centre of the leaf. It is a linear track which widens to a large blotch at the leaf edge, with frass in long threads (British leafminers).

Corridor, generally beginning in the neighbourhood of the midrib, rather gradually widening into a very large blotch. Frass in long threads. Pupation in the ground (Bladmineerders van Europa).

Larva: The larva is illustrated in Bladmineerders van Europa.

Pupa: Details unknown.

Adult: The adult is illustrated in UKMoths. The male and female genitalia are illustrated by the Lepidoptera Dissection Group.

Distribution in Great Britain and Ireland: Well distributed across mainland Britain, but fairly localised, this species is probably overlooked (UKMoths) including Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, East Ross, East Suffolk, Herefordshire, Shropshire, South Aberdeen, Stafford, Surrey, Warwickshire, West Gloucestershire, West Kent, West Suffolk and Worcestershire (NBN Gateway - N.B. includes Watsonian Vice Counties having publicly available records that fall within or overlap the vice county border at 10km resolution or better i.e. a record for a vice county may relate to an adjacent vice county - for included datasets see NBN Grid map below) and Northern Ireland (Karsholt and van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).
