Distribution in Britain: Found locally in suitable habitat mainly in the southern half of Britain (UKMoths) including Bucks, Cheshire, Dorset, East Kent, East Norfolk, Hereford, Herts, Hunts, Main Argyll, Middlesex, North Essex, Northants, Oxford, South Devon, South Essex, South Hants, South Lincoln, Stafford, Surrey, West Cornwall, West Gloucester, West Kent, West Norfolk and West Suffolk (NBN Gateway distribution map - BRERC, DBRC, HBRG, JNCC, NE and SNH).

Also recorded in the Republic of Ireland (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).

Distribution elsewhere: Widespread in Europe including Austria, Balearic Is., Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Corsica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Danish mainland, Estonia, Finland, French mainland, Germany, Greek mainland, Hungary, Italian mainland, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Norwegian mainland, Poland, Portuguese mainland, Romania, Russia - Central, East and South, Sardinia, Sicily, Slovakia, Spanish mainland, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).
