Leaf-mine: A large mine with a strong crease in lower epidermis. Leaf-edge often folded downwards (British leafminers). The mine is also illustrated in UKMoths and Nederlandse bladmineerders.

Pupa: The cremaster is illustrated in British leafminers and Nederlandse bladmineerders.

Time of year - mines: June - July, September - October (British leafminers).

Distribution in Britain: Distributed throughout the British Isles (UKMoths), including Banff, Easterness, Edinburgh, Elgin, Hereford, Lanark, Mid Perth, North Aberdeen, North Devon, North Ebudes, North Hants, Peebles, Selkirk, Salop, South Aberdeen, South Devon, South Lancaster, South Wilts, South-east York, Stafford, Stirling, West Gloucester, West Lancaster, Worcester (NBN Gateway distribution map - BRERC, DBRDC, GiGL, HBRG, NE, NESBRC and SNH) and Ireland (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea). This species is generally commoner in the northern half of Britain (UKMoths). See also British leafminers distribution map.

Also recorded in the Republic of Ireland (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).

Distribution elsewhere: Widespread in Europe including Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Corsica, Czech Republic, Danish mainland, Estonia, Finland, French mainland, Germany, Hungary, Italian mainland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Republic of Moldova, Norwegian mainland, Poland, Portuguese mainland, Romania, Russia - Central, East, North, Northwest and South, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Ukraine. Also recorded in Near East and Nearctic region (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).
