Leaf-mine: The larvae mine the leaves of hawthorn, creating a gallery which begins narrowly with black linear frass. The mine then widens, and the frass is laid in distinct arcs, finally becoming irregular and central near the end (UKMoths).

Larva: The larva is green (British leafminers).

Pupa: Details unknown.

Time of year - mines: End June - early August (British leafminers).

Time of year - adults: Single generation. The adults are on the wing in May and June (UKMoths).

Distribution in Britain: Common throughout the British Isles (UKMoths) including Banff, Cambridge, East Kent, East Perth, Fife, Forfar, Hunts, Kincardine, Lanark, Leicester, Mid Perth, Mid-west York, Middlesex, North Aberdeen, North Devon, North Hants, North-west York, South Aberdeen, South Essex, South Hants, South Lancaster, Stirling, Surrey, West Kent and West Suffolk (NBN Gateway distribution map - BRERC, GiGL, NE, NESBRC, SNH and SHWRG). Also recorded in the Republic of Ireland (Karsholt & van Nieukerken in Fauna Europaea).
