Leaf mine: The mine starts at the tip of a vein at the leaf edge and a plug of frass is left at the start of the mine (British leafminers). The mine is also illustrated in Nederlandse bladmineerders.

Larva: The larva is intially green and then turns a dark yellow colour towards maturity (British leafminers). The larva is also illustrated in Nederlandse bladmineerders.

Pupa: Details unknown.

Distribution in Britain: Berks, South Lancaster, South-east York, Surrey and Warwick (NBN Gateway distribution map, as Messa nana - NE).

Also recorded in the Republic of Ireland (van Achterberg in Fauna Europaea).

Distribution elsewhere: Europe including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Danish mainland, Finland, French mainland, Germany, Luxembourg, Norwegian mainland, Poland, Romania, Russia - Central, Sweden and The Netherlands (van Achterberg in Fauna Europaea).

Parasitoids: Unknown.
