Leaf mine: This is the early season miner on this plant; mines formed later in the season are due to Scolioneura betuleti. Blotch mines are formed at the leaf edge. There may be more than one mine in a leaf (British leafminers). The mine is also illustrated in Nederlandse bladmineerders.

Larva: The larva is pale green, with a brown head (British leafminers). The larva is also illustrated in Nederlandse bladmineerders.

Pupa: Details unknown.

Time of year - mines: May - June (British leafminers).

Time of year - adults: Unknown.

Distribution in Britain: A female was found in May 1942 in Ireland (Liston and O'Connor, 2005) and the species has subsequently been recorded in mainland Britain (British leafminers - Newsletter).

Distribution elsewhere: Europe including Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg and Sweden (van Achterberg in Fauna Europaea).

Parasitoids: Unknown.
