CHANGES - 2010

28th December 2010 - NBN grid map height increased

The height of the NBN grid map frame (where a map is available) was increased to enable data sources to be displayed for the majority of species without the need to scroll. Where there are very large numbers of data sources the scroll bar is displayed so that the hidden data sources may be viewed by scrolling.

27th December 2010 - Menu layout changed

The main navigation menu was changed to bring together the Miner index and Miner checklists (see above).

24th December 2010 - Lepidoptera species added

The nepticulid moth Trifurcula immundella, a twig miner on Cystisus scoparius (Broom), was added following British leafminers.

23rd December 2010 - Lepidoptera miners updated

Links from the 467 Lepidoptera included here to the Encyclopedia of Life and the Biodiversity Heritage Library have been added. These external links are based on the currently accepted name. Not all of the Biodiversity Heritage Library links are currently populated, nor comprehensive, but it is expected that they will be over time

14th December 2010 - Diptera miners and non-miners updated

Links from the 472 Diptera included here to the Encyclopedia of Life and the Biodiversity Heritage Library have been added. These external links are based on the currently accepted name. Not all of the Biodiversity Heritage Library links are currently populated, nor comprehensive, but it is expected that they will be over time.

6th December 2010 - Hymenoptera miners updated

Links from the 26 Hymenoptera miners included here to the Encyclopedia of Life and the Biodiversity Heritage Library have been added. These external links are based on the currently accepted name. Not all of the Biodiversity Heritage Library links are currently populated, nor comprehensive, but it is expected that they will be over time.

6th December 2010 - Coleoptera miners updated

The synonymy of the Coleoptera miners included here have been updated. Links to the 36 species included here to the Encyclopedia of Life and the Biodiversity Heritage Library have been added. These links are based on either the original name or, if this is not included, then to the currently accepted name. Not all of the Biodiversity Heritage Library links are currently populated, nor comprehensive, but it is expected that they will be over time.

The Encyclopedia of Life includes records from the Catalogue of Life (Species 2000 and ITIS), the Global Biodiversity Information Facility and The Global Lepidoptera Names Index among many others. Images sourced from BioImages, Biolib, Biopix, EOL Images Group on Flickr, the EOL Rapid Response Team and other sources are also included.

The Biodiversity Heritage Library includes references to individual names. Scans of many of the individual pages may be viewed and the references may be downloaded.

12th November 2010 - Host plants of Chromatomyia horticola updated

Host plants of Chromatomyia horticola have been updated to include additional host genera included in Bladmineerders en plantengallen van Europa. As a result the miner is now recorded here from 160 genera in 31 families of which of which 55 plant genera in 19 families are records for Britain.

10th November 2010 - Host plant pages R to Z updated

Host plant pages for genera beginning with R - Z have been updated to include descriptions and, where available, images of mines or cases of British and non-British Lepidoptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera.

All host plant pages for genera beginning with R - Z have been updated to include a synopsis of the host preferences and distribution for each taxon of Coleoptera, Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera.

These same host plant pages have been updated to exclude or include those associations which were deleted or added on 12 September, 2010 due to changes in Bladmineerders en plantengallen van Europa (see below).

27th October 2010 - Host plant pages N to Q updated

Host plant pages for genera beginning with N - Q have been updated to include descriptions and, where available, images of mines or cases of British and non-British Lepidoptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera.

All host plant pages for genera beginning with N - Q have been updated to include a synopsis of the host preferences and distribution for each taxon of Coleoptera, Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera.

These same host plant pages have been updated to exclude or include those associations which were deleted or added on 12 September, 2010 due to changes in Bladmineerders en plantengallen van Europa (see below).

Updates to the remaining genera are ongoing.

4th October 2010 - Host plant pages A to M updated

Host plant pages for genera beginning with A - M have been updated to include descriptions and, where available, images of mines or cases of British and non-British Lepidoptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera.

All host plant pages for genera beginning with G - M have been updated to include a synopsis of the host preferences and distribution for each taxon of Coleoptera, Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera included..

These same host plant pages have been updated to exclude or include those associations which were deleted or added on 12 September, 2010 due to changes in Bladmineerders en plantengallen van Europa (see below).

Updates to the remaining genera are ongoing.

12th September 2010 - Links from known host plant species to NBN distribution maps added for all Lepidoptera

Links have been added from known host plant species to NBN interactive distribution maps, where they exist, for all species of Lepidoptera. For species of moths without NBN distribution maps, these host plant species distribution maps will inform the user of the potential range of the moth. Where both moth and host species maps exist, these highlight just how few moth records are recorded by the NBN relative to the numbers of host species records, particularly where the moth is monophagous (recorded on a single host plant species). Additionally the host distribution maps provide location information on where the moth might be sought.

12th September 2010 - Host plant associations of British miners outside of Britain updated

A total of 313 host plant associations of British miners outside of Britain have been deleted following their exclusion from Bladmineerders en plantengallen van Europa or subsequent synonymy or replacement of a genus only association by a genus and species association.

A total of 1, 785 new host plant associations of British miners outside of Britain have been added following their addition to Bladmineerders en plantengallen van Europa or subsequent synonymy or replacement of a genus and species association by a genus only association.

As a result of these changes many of the host pages need to be updated.

11th August 2010 - Keys to Diptera updated

The keys to Diptera mines have been updated to include a synopsis of the host preferences and distribution for each taxon.

4th August 2010 - Host plant pages A to F updated
